The mind has been impossibly tasked with interpreting ourselves and our world. What we see from this is profound confusion, hopelessness, and exhaustion.
Non-duality asserts a series of questions, not to help understand ourselves or the world better, but to unearth and expose all of the ways that our “understanding” has locked ourselves and our world into a completely inane and useless perception, and a painful one.
What is Advaita Vedanta?
In Sanskrit, Advaita means “not two or non-secondness” and Vedanta refers to the “end of the Vedas”, the sacred Indian scriptures called The Upanishads. The central teaching of Advaita Vedanta is that Brahman is the ultimate reality. This reality has no opposite, and no others. It is free from the constructs of space and time, and does not belong to the causal ie, it is without beginning, without end. This one reality manifests as an illusory world or, The Maya. This ephemeral world is ever-changing as per its nature, and is therefore inherently untrue. The goal of this teaching is to transcend individuality and deny empirical plurality, establishing oneself in the very core of experiencing itself, as Brahman, the unchanging.
What does this mean for me?
As Advaita Vedanta asserts that this Brahman-self is the essence of our nature, this is a process of unlearning the identification with a separate identity (the sweet You that you may have come to know yourself as), and therefore the relinquishing of all desire for changing forms and transient experiences.
Contrary to what the separate identity may suspect, this process brings deep fulfillment, unprecedented peace of body and mind, pervasive joy, and unfathomable freedom. We encounter our true nature as unbound, undying, and limitless.
This shift in awareness is not only a mental epiphany, but the dawning of an intuitive heart-knowing in the body of its perfect belonging, preciousness and absolute lovability.
